Frequently Asked QuestionsPlayStation NAT Types

PlayStation NAT Type Issues

Different NAT Types

PlayStation uses different NAT types to classify the network connection.

NAT Type 1

With NAT Type 1, the PlayStation is connected directly to the internet without an intermediate router.

This generally provides the highest level of compatibility for online gaming.

NAT Type 2

NAT Type 2 is the recommended configuration for most users.

In this setup, the PlayStation is connected behind a router or network, while online features and multiplayer gaming continue to function normally.

NAT Type 3

With NAT Type 3, certain connections are restricted by network or firewall settings.

This may cause issues with online gaming, voice chat, or connecting to other players.

NAT Types on the Wifibri Network

On the Wifibri network, a PlayStation will typically obtain a NAT Type 2 connection.

This is the recommended configuration and is suitable for virtually all online applications.

A NAT Type 1 connection is not possible on the Wifibri network.

Why Don’t I Get NAT Type 1?

A NAT Type 1 connection requires the device to be connected directly to the internet without any intermediate router or network infrastructure.

This is not possible on the Wifibri network.

For most applications, this is not an issue. NAT Type 2 provides the same functionality for online gaming and is considered a normal and supported configuration by PlayStation.

My Friend Has NAT Type 1 and I Have NAT Type 2. Is My Connection Worse?

No.

NAT Type 2 is the standard configuration for devices connected behind a router or network.

For online gaming, voice chat, and other PlayStation Network features, NAT Type 2 is generally more than sufficient.

I Have NAT Type 3. Can Wifibri Change This?

No.

The NAT type is determined by several factors within the network and the PlayStation itself. Because of this, we cannot guarantee or modify the NAT type of individual devices.

If your PlayStation reports a NAT Type 3 connection, certain online features may be limited.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide further support for NAT Type 3 related issues.
